Hello and a very big welcome to you.

My name is Garth Pettit. I am a dentist with a unique speciality !   I now specialise  in and limit my activities to oral healthcare education. I therefore refer to myself as an Oral HealthCare Educator.

I wrote The MouthWise™ Oral HealthCare Manual 2, an oral healthcare educatioal text book published in the form of a serial of 10 magazines, over a recent 6 year period during which time I was responsible for the oral health needs and education of children and communities in the remote areas of East Arnhem Land in the Northern Territory of Australia. Not surprisingly , at the beginning of my contract I found the resources available me to, to execute these responsibilities, were either nil or of nil value !  Many of you who have health or educational or other work experience in similar distant or socio-economic environments will be aware of the long term, but unsatisfied needs, of these people, particularly in relation to their  health and education and the 'hopelessly-out-of-depth' syndrome this creates for everyone concerned. 

Six months after leaving that very beautiful part of Australia, I  completed the draft of the   MouthWise Oral HealthCare Education Program, a Classroom Handbook which Teachers in that area recommended as a necessary adjunct to Manual 2. Instead of publishing the Handbook in book form I have re-drafted it and posted it to this website in the section "The SmileShine School -on-the-Web".

Obviously, The MouthWise Oral HealthCare Education Program is now available to a much wider audience. I hope it will be a valuable oral healthcare educational resource  for anyone, anywhere, seeking oral healthcare excellence.

Although children will benefit more from this program than will adults, there is information and advice in abundance throughout the program which will be of great benefit to adults. Of special significance to everyone is the new oral hygiene instruction “ Treat Your Mouth ”. Simply and logically the flaws in the centuries old oral hygiene instruction, “ Brush Your Teeth ”, are exposed as you understand and adopt the new instruction.

Now please have fun, enjoy yourself and reap the benefits as you are educated in the basics of oral healthcare and can therefore then more ably care for the beautiful things in your mouth, your teeth, your gums and your tongue.

I wish to express my deep gratitude to the school teachers in Alyangula, Angurugu, Milyakburra, Umbakumba, Numbulwar and Borroloola who I repeatedly bombarded with requests for criticism . I extend  my heartful thanks and deep gratitude to my two Dental Assistants, The Team Fantastic, Jacqueline Purdon and Melinda Mitchell for their encouragement, criticisms and tolerance over an often stressful, 3-year-long period of drafts and redrafts.
